Approaches to ESG & SDGs

In order to contribute to a sustainable society and to increase our corporate value, our company has positioned initiatives for ESG and SDGs as a key issue for our company management.

Message from the President

President Hiroya Uyemura

Under the Uyemura Group slogan of “Growing together with U ,”our aims are to grow and prosper together with our stakeholders and to be a company that is able to contribute to society.

In our particular business domain of the plating industry, environmental pollution has become a global challenge. Since the 2000s, environmental regulations have been established one after the other, including the European Union’s ELV (end-of-life vehicles) Directive, REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive, and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive, which restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. At Uyemura, we have continued to engage in the development of products and technologies in response to these various environmental regulations. We have also undertaken environmental assessments of each stage of our business, from the manufacture of our products to their transport and disposal, and pursued measures aimed at mitigating their burden on the environment. Making the most of our strengths as a technology-intensive company, we will continue to be proactive in our approach to the mitigation of environmental problems through the development of products that are free of hazardous chemicals, the extension of the life cycle of our products, and the improvement of resource recycling efficiency.

Further, in our response to globalization, instead of merely pursuing profits, we strive to realize sustainable growth and development while responding to changes in the business management environment, by ensuring the diversity of our people and taking maximum advantage of the individual character and abilities of each and every one of our employees. We are also engaged in the development of workplace environments that will enable all Group employees to work energetically.

Positioning approaches to ESG&SDGs as a key challenge of management, we will continue to fulfill our contributions to a sustainable society.

Approaches to ESG

Approaches to Environment

We are committed to contributing to the realization of a sustainable society through environmentally conscious business activities. As part of our environmental initiatives, we are continuously working to develop products that are free from hazardous substances such as heavy metals, cyanide, formaldehyde, and PFAS.
We also promote effective resource utilization and the reduction of environmental impact by extending the lifespan of chemical solutions and introducing or proposing technologies for wastewater recycling.
In our manufacturing processes, we focus on proper wastewater management and reducing water usage. To minimize waste, we use reusable containers for our product packaging.
Furthermore, we are working to reduce CO₂ emissions through the use of solar power, energy-efficient equipment, and environmentally friendly vehicles for our company cars and delivery trucks.
Looking ahead, we will continue to actively pursue CO₂ reduction efforts, with the goal of cutting our group’s CO₂ emissions by 27% by 2030 (compared to 2017 levels), and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Approaches to Social

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse workplace, while actively contributing to local communities and broader society to support sustainable development.
To ensure that every employee can work with vitality and peace of mind, we have established a support system for employee well-being, including regular health checkups and access to external mental health consultation services. We also strive to create a work environment that supports a variety of lifestyles, enabling employees to balance work with responsibilities such as childcare and caregiving.
In recruitment, job placement, and promotion, we practice fair evaluation based on individual abilities and performance, regardless of gender or nationality, to promote the active participation of diverse talent. In addition, we provide in-house training programs tailored to different job levels and roles to support continuous employee development.
We also value our connection with the local community. Our ongoing community engagement includes activities such as blood donation drives, contributions to food banks, and participation in local shrine festivals, reflecting our commitment to making a meaningful impact at the grassroots level.

Approaches to Governance

To ensure sound corporate management, we are committed to strict compliance with laws and regulations, adherence to corporate ethics, and transparent information disclosure. Our Group Code of Conduct outlines key principles such as fair market practices, the exclusion of relationships with anti-social forces, and the prohibition of insider trading. Through internal training programs, we promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization.
We have also established a whistleblower system that enables employees to report concerns directly, particularly regarding potential legal or ethical violations. In addition, we collaborate with departments and group companies to advance internal control activities and fulfill our social responsibilities.
As part of our Business Continuity Plan (BCP), we are taking proactive measures to mitigate disaster risks, including the installation of vibration control devices, generators, and movable flood barriers. We are also working to ensure a stable supply chain during emergencies by diversifying raw material procurement and reviewing our delivery systems.
